View Full Version : ECW gets T.V deal with the Sci-Fi Channel

Although Sci-Fi channel has yet to issue a press release confirming the ECW TV deal, it added an ECW section to its message boards late this week.

The section, likely following a WWE request, was taken down earlier today.

As reported, WWE has struck a deal to broadcast a weekly Extreme Championship Wrestling television show on the NBC Universal-owned Sci-Fi network.

Looks official now, the return of ECW. But will they tape ECW shows in the same arenas as RAW and SD! Or will they use the old, smaller venues?

I've heard conflicting reports. First, it was supposed to be taped before WWE Raw and Smackdown events, so it'd be a shiny new coating for Velocity and Heat. Now I hear that WWE is beginning to rent halls for smaller shows, and the New Alhambra (nee ECW Arena) is not playing ball for some reason.

It's not ECW, it's WWF hardcore matches, which will probably be shown at 5pm in the afternoon and feature trash can lids made out of tin foil and road signs which make lots of noise being hit over peoples heads.

Yeah. The WWE already knows how badly they failed with their hardcore division. Al Snow clocking Ray Traylor in the head with a tray of funnel cakes, while J.R. mocks, "Oh no, not the dreaded funnel cakes...."

It's starting as an all internet thing, taking the place of Velocity or Heat. They are also thinking of eliminating A.M. Raw, a Raw recap show that takes place at like 2 in the morning, in lieu of the ECW show. Personally, I didn't know A.M. Raw existed.

AM Raw is just a re-airing of Raw at a time so late no one will ever watch it. I forget exactly what day and time it's on.

It's actually on right now at my house because I get the east coast feed, and I am on the west coast. They cut out some of the stuff it's only an hour long.

Uhm.. I think that's the whole idea they're trying to get at. WWE wouldn't hire some half ass talent ECW wrestlers back into the business. Therefore, Roadkill would definitely not be invited back for some cake. That is if WWE were smart.

WWE officially launched ECW as a brand extension to its RAW and SmackDown franchises.
And Sci Fi announced that it will start airing one-hour episodes of a new ECW live show, set to debut June 13 at 10 p.m. (EST).

“After keeping the ECW concept alive and creating an enormous cult-like following for all things ECW from DVDs to PPV [events] to books, we feel that now the time is right to officially launch ECW as its own stand-alone franchise," Vince McMahon said in a prepared statement
