I've recently bought a piano after learning it as a kid and have started writing my own songs. You may think a piano is a queer instrument, but it's not so fuck you. PODxt for the modeller, and Cool Edit for my DAW.
I use Line 6 Riff Tracker, which has the same type of amp/cab/stompbox modeling as the Pod. It's especially cool if you don't have a full band, as it gives you a virtual drummer which is actually pretty good and human sounding. I don't know if the Pod has that feature. It's a cool little device that only costs about $190 (assuming you live in the US). I highly recommend picking it up, as it will completely replace any 4-track cassette recorder that you may have. It did for me.

computerized drums irritate the shit out of me. Its like the bud light of drums, watered down garbage. A computer will never give you that kick in the face that a live drummer will. Sure they are ok for tracking ideas, but i wouldn't ever put anything out with sampled drums unless it was a rap song.
