View Full Version : TNA losing the NWA World title will hurt both of them.

My first thought when I heard that TNA will be losing the NWA World and tag team titles was the sound of a toilet flushing.
TNA's only credibility is the NWA's history. Casual fan's dont follow TNA. Most have never heard of it. But many have heard of the NWA because they were fans in the 80s during the big pro wrestling boom. So TNA's fan base is that of long time fans who love tradition. The NWA World title has that tradition. TNA has... Vince Russo (or "WUSS-o" as he calls himself with that Elmer Fudd Accent of his.) who is not well liked by wrestling fans.
By losing the NWA World title TNA is risking alianating much of it's fan base which it cannot offord to do right now.
On the other side of the coin, the NWA World title has finally begun to regain the respect that it once held thanks mostly to TNA and the TV coverage it provided. With out it, the NWA World title will surely fall back into obscurity.
TNA needs the NWA World title and the NWA World title needs TNA. They must work out an agreement to settle this or they will both lose.

I don't know why, I'm daydreaming a bit, but I thought that post was by Dave the Jerkoff. Then I got to the end and realised I hadn't laughed yet and was dissapointed with myself for wasting minutes of my life which could have been put to better use knocking one out.

I think it's just the opposite. The TNA fans (as I posted elsewhere) are generally very young and never saw the NWA's prime period. Most of the fans of that era dislike TNA because it's mainly spotfesters and guys past their primes, with a few notable exceptions. I don't think business will change at all for TNA.
Sorry, TDA, that wasn't funny either. Maybe this will help. "I'm afraid I just blue myself for nothing."

It's possible that TNA could survive. But with their fan base being so small I just don't know if they can survive the inevitable initial backlash. Remember how much of a slump WCW fell into after pulling from the NWA and creating their own World title? It cost them a lot of credibility and took several years -- and the addition of HOLLYWOOD HULK HOGAN -- for them to get back on track. Seeing as how TNA has far less money, TV coverage, notoriety and fewer fans I see it as being very possible that TNA could be seriously hurt by this.

I don't think there will really even be a backlash. Someone may notice that it no longer says NWA: TNA, but other than that, I don't think it's going to make anyone stop watching.

Somebody should make those business cards. They'd make a fortune. I'm seriously thinking of getting that done just for the fun of it.

Maybe backlash was the wrong word as that implies anger. I don't thing people will stop watching TNA in protest. However, in my opinion there is really no reason to watch TNA without the NWA title.
Vince WUSS-o however is a huge reason NOT to watch it. His continual reliance on shock value is pointless. Once we've seen it it's not shocking anymore. When he tries to repeat it, not only is it not shocking the second time, but you realize how dumb his angles are. In WCW he repeated so many things he did in the WWF. But because the shock value of it was gone he made the promotion look stupid. The newest edition of Pro Wrestling Illustrated (on sale March 27) even features a story on Wuss-o's tired attempts to recreate old shock value senerios like TNA going to a WWF show and bringing a camera, referring to wrestlers of other promotions by their real names in an attempt to discredit them. It's all been done before -- sometimes multiple times) and they aren't shocking anymore.
Now rumor has it that he's going to have someone (possibly Somoa Joe) throw the NWA World title belt down, say he doesn't want to be a champion od a "dead" promotion and proclaim himself TNA champion. That's exactly what Shane Douglas did in ECW. But this time it won't be shocking, it won't be news making, it will only be looked at as typical Vince WUSS-o crap and TNA not having any new ideas.
That alone is enough to drive fans away and that doesn't even scratch the surface of WUSS-o's idiocy. The loss of the NWA World title will only rid TNA of the one thing that's making many fans put up with him.
They won't all walk away at once, and sure some will stay... for a while at least. But does TNA have the fan base to cover that loss? That's the question. The NWA World title has help TNA just as TNA has helped the NWA World title. They need each other. The split will not only hurt both of them, but pro wrestling as well as the closest thing that the WWF has to compatition will be at an even greater risk of folding.

I'm pretty sure you are definately in the minority on that one. Almost all of the people who watch TNA couldn't give 2 shits about NWA, if they've even heard of it. It isn't like the NWA name got TNA any extra exposure or anything. TNA pretty much got it all on their own. The TV deal, the video game, everything.

Isn't Shane Douglas working there or something? they should have him throw it in the trash and shit.

It isn't like the NWA name got TNA any extra exposure or anything. TNA pretty much got it all on their own. The TV deal, the video game, everything. Yeah they've come a long way. But for years when they survived on nothing but cheep weakly PPVs and purchaced air time, it was the NWA World title that gave them credibility. Most likely they never would have survived those early years without it.
Isn't Shane Douglas working there or something? they should have him throw it in the trash and shit. They shouldn't trash it at all. That worked the for ECW because it was shocking. No one had ever done that before. As I said earlier Vince Wuss-o's constant reusing of old shock value angles (which have no shock value the second time around) has brought much critisism. If they are going to start a new title the last thing they won't to do is have it branded with Wuss-o's "cheep imitation" logo.
