Date Added: May 24, 2006
Story By: Niel Stephens
Thanks to Brian Stoltz for sending in the following:

I got there at the beginning of Smackdown so I caught the end of Velocity, arena was no where close to sold out.

Velocity

Paul Birchell and William Regal lose to the Gymini

Smackdown Begins

Booker T gets his crown and rambles on and Sharmell talks too much and is very ANNOYING, they both stay at ringside and watch the match from their chairs.

Lashley beats JBL for the US Title despite interference from Booker T

Lashley challenges Booker T to a match next week, Booker T agrees if the US title is on the line

Teddy Long announces Mark Henry taking on Rey Mysterio for the main event

Paul London and Brian Kendrick beat Kid Kash and Jamie Noble in a 5 star match

Paul Heyman comes out and promotes One Night Stand which brings out Finlay who attempts to attack Paul Heyman but Chris Benoit comes to the rescue only to get pummeled by Finlay and a short guy. Finlay beat the crap out of Benoit with the stick he carries to the ring.

Great Khali defeats Matt Hardy in a very quick match (Hardy got the biggest pop of the night)

Tatanka defeats someone announced from Bakersfield

Rappers come out to a lot of boos and Mark Henry comes out and challenges Rey Mysterio. Not a bad match at all, Chavo Guerrero pushes Rey Mysterio off the ropes and Mysterio loses to Mark Henry with a big splash. Mark Henry left with the World Title belt. The crowd was a little confused because it was not announced as a title match and when the bell rang, they only announced Mark Henry as the winner and he grabbed the belt. Big celebration for Mark Henry with the rappers.

so theyre having chavo turn against rey maybe in a jealous fit probably, and whats with henry winning against rey mysterio again

I've read three totally different sets of spoilers on the other forum I post on, the only things in all three were Lashley winning the US title and the leprechaun helping Finlay out. Also, one of them said JBL was saying how he was the best beer-drinker ever etc etc and would be at ONS2 doing just that which led to THE SANDMAN running out for the beatdown. All three spoilers seemed like decent enough shows though.

The above spoilers are fake. As far as I know JBL/Rey 2 was the main event with JBL losing and getting "fired" opening the door for him to join RAW.

If that's true, then that's a bad idea. They should be building toward a Lashley/JBL main event feud, which should start soon, as Rey needs surgery and will be out of the main event picture. If JBL leaves, who will be in the main event? Khali/Taker? No, thanks.

According to Mike Johnson (PWInsider), JBL has been complaining of back pains backstage and may consider quitting entirely right now. :(

Either way, he's not expected to go to RAW for a few weeks because he wants to rest up.

JBL is going to do an Angle where he's suing Smackdown.

That Damn Alright
05-27-2006, 11:22 AM
It would be more fun if he would just do Angle. WWF hasn't done a gay angle in about 6 months, it's about time we saw some man on man lovin'. Am I right?!

News on JBL, Benoit, Mercury (source: pwtorch):
-In a WWE.com interview, JBL says he will be "filing a lawsuit" to get back into Smackdown because his verbal contract with Teddy Long isn't valid. (He could also claim his original pin on Rey Mysterio should stand because referee's can't reverse their own decision once it's officially announced.) He said he has some injuries and will be getting them checked out (which as reported in this week's Torch Newsletter is legit true; his back is causing him major pain and prohibiting him from training or having the type of matches he has in the past), but will return to Smackdown afterward. Estimates of how much time he'll miss varies from six to twelve week.

-Chris Benoit is taking what is being called "an indefinite sabbatical" from WWE, as also reported this week in the Torch Newsletter. Says the article, Benoit is taking time off "because of injury after injury, mile after mile and event after event, Chris Benoit feels it’s time he should take a sabbatical. Sources close to Benoit state that he is exhausted both physically and emotionally, and that with time off Benoit will recharge and come back better than ever." This week's Torch Newsletter quotes a WWE colleague of his commenting on his hiatus. Excerpt: Chris Benoit is taking extended time off to let his body heal. "He's been sore for a long time, and it's probably best for him to get proper rest and away from the grind of the road," says one colleague. "For the good of Chris and really, in the big picture, the company, he needs time off."

-Joey Mercury, accordiing to the Wrestling Observer this week, is being sent to drug rehab, and that's why MNM was broken up. As Torch Newsletter reported, Nitro and Melina are slated to move to Raw with Nitro being a singles wrestler.
